With the remarkable cooperation of Ole Man Weather, over 1,000 persons witnessed one of the most successful Four-County Fairs that the Agricultural Department has sponsored since the initiation of this event 6 years past. Although there was a decrease in the number of livestock entries from last year, the animals were well trained. The! number of field crops, and household products far surpassed the last year’s number. Totally there were 435 entries.
Madison County won the Johnson-Washington-Conyers gold cup for having the largest number of entries. Culpeper County placer second. First, second and third prizes were given to all winners.
The Regional Agricultural Advisory Council and the Agricultural Department extends the deepest appreciation to all that helped to promote this our Sixth Annual Four-County Fair. Thomas Coleman Carpenter, 18, of Achsah, Virginia, was recently announced a winner of the National Farm Mechanics Award. This award is donated by the Future Farmers of America Foundation, and was presented to Carpenter at the National Convention of New Farmers of America which was held in Atlanta, Ga.
