The five youth with joined hands, encircling the symbolic Christmas tree have become familiar to Rappahannock citizens as the Christmas Seal sales jumped to $267.50, this week, an advance of $108.00 over last week's contributions.
Hampton District still leads in total sales, having turned in $76.00. Wakefield made a sizable gain of $29 this week over their $50.50 contribution total last week. Piedmont is third with $49 and the other, districts follow: Jackson, $39.50; Hawthorne, $26.50 and Stonewall, $26.00.
This cause to which the contributions are dedicated is not an abstract one. In Rappahannock County, according to a recent report from Health Supervisor, Mrs. P. L. Thornton, there are now 19 tuberculosis cases under supervision. Furthermore there are 8 suspects and 72 contacts, also * under supervision at this time.
Two tuberculosis deaths were reported this year. Two patients have returned from the sanitorium this year and one patient is awaiting sanitorium admission. Two new cases and 5 suspects were also reported.
Four hundred and forty-nine persons were x-rayed in the 70mm survey in May, and 85 have had the 14x17 x-ray this year.
Furthermore, Mrs. Thornton comments, “Using the number of ^liberculosis cases in surrounding bounties as a criterion, there is still / quite a lot of undiscovered tuberculosis in this county." No, this is not an abstract cause.
BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT —— Mr, and Mrs. Murphy J. Reid of R.F.D. 3, Fredericksburg have announced the birth of a daughter, —Beverly Ilene, born Thursday, December 2. Mrs. Reid is the former Miss Barbara Griffith, graduate of class 1953 of R.C.H.S. Mr. Reid is employed at the American Viscose Corporation at Fredericksburg.
