For Excess Wheat
— Fanners who have 1955 wheat acreage in excess of the farm allotment or 15 acres, whichever is the larger, may utilize the excess acreage as green manure, cover crop, hay or silage to avoid having a farm marketing excess of wheat. Farmers with 15 acres or less may also utilize acreage in excess of their allotments to qualify for price support.
In Rappahannock County the date by which excess wheat shall be utilized is June 1, 1955 according to H. S. Barksdale, County ASC chairman. He stated that acreage in excess of the allotment and 15 acres not utilized for one of the foregoing purposes by this date will be ^subject to a penalty equal to 45 p&r cent of the wheat parity price on May 1, 1955. The penalty rate onthe 1954 crop was $1.12 per bushel.
The ASC chairman cautioned all wheat farmers in the county who have excess wheat, whether intentionally seeded or otherwise, to make a memorandum of the June 1 date of utilization. There are no provisions under the 1955 wheat marketings program - fon granting an extension of that date.
Farmers who plant wheat and other grain for mixture are also reminded that such mixtures must be less than 50 per cent by weightof wheat when seeded, as well as when harvested, to quality as a wheat mixture under the definition of the marketing quota program. The responsibility of a wheat mixture turning out to be less than 50 per cent pf wheat by weight when harvested is entirely upon the wheat farmer.
Any acreage which do not qualify under the definition of a wheat mixture and which acreages are in excess of the farm allotment will be subject to marketing quota penalties on the production therefrom. ~
