This banquet, like the others, is held in the grand bail room with its six giant chandeliers. It is a beautiful room, especially when every girl there is wearing an orchid and every boy, a carnation! Did you ever see 800 orchids at once? I hadn’t either, but they were presented to us at the U. S. Rubber Co. breakfast.
Also at these banquets, national winners were presented. The donors were the sponsors of the meals. At the last one, on Thursday night, national winners received $300 college scholarships, sets of silver and silver trays, depending on their project.
Even those of us who won no national award felt honored to have so mpch done for us and given to us. We learned it costs some sponsor about $900 to send a delegate. Then, all these other companies presented meals, entertainment and gifts.
