Brush Burning Law
Now In Effect
The Brush Burning Law went - into effect in the County as of March 1st, stated Chief Forest Warden McCarty M. Moncure of Rappahannock County. He also stated that it was his responsibility to enforce this law in the County as a representative of the Virginia Forest Service. 1 Briefly, this law states that setting of fire to brush, grass, leaves ' or other inflammable material is illegal within, 300 feet of woodland or brush land in the County between March 1st and May 15th of each year, except between the hours of 4^0 p.m. and midnight. If convicted of violating this law, 'a fine of not less than $10.00 or more than $100.00 can be imposed by the Trial Justice of the County. Also, if a forest fire is allowed to start from such burning, the responsible party is liable to the County for suppression of the fire. ~ The Virginia Forest Service records show that each year approximately 30% of the forest fires in the State are caused by careless • burning, either in violation of the Brush Burning Law or during other periods of the - year when this law is not in effect.
AMISSVILLE AUXILIARY PLAN FOR BANQUET
The Auxiliary to the Amissville V. F. D. held its monthly meeting Tuesday, March 8 at 8 o’clock with 23 members present.
Plans for the Firemen’s Banquet and the card party were dis, cussed. The banquet will be held this month and die card party on April 1st.
Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cook, of Flint Hill, have announced the engagement of their daughter! Margaret Browning, to Jack Ray Roberson, sort of Mr. and Mrs. C. Ray Roberson of Louisville, Kentucky. The wedding will take place in mid April.
