ESSAYS BEING JUDGED IN WILDLIFE CONTEST

The Education Division of the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries is snowed under with essays from schools all over Virginia entered in the Eighth Annual Wildlife Contest, sponsored jointly by the Commission and the Virginia of the Izaak Walton League.

William C. Kellner, Assistant Chief of the Education Division and chairman of the Essay Contest, says that screening of the essays has begun and, after final judging, the grand prizes in each grade, from five through twelve, will be awarded by Governor Stanley in special ceremonies at the Capitol on a date to be announced shortly.

Amissville Firemen

Hold March Meeting

A larger representation than usual attended the regular monthly meeting of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday, March 2.

Loss of the Phillips house on the previous Sunday was discussed but it was generally agreed that the fire had' gained too much before discovery for the department to have done more than it did.

The Department decided to retain for further test and possible final Approval of its purchase, the portable pump now in its possession for trial. It was also voted to retain for the present in order to ascertain its probable worth, a used ambulance which has been offered for sale to Amissville.

The Treasurer reported donations from Miss Marian Riley and Mrs. C. M. M. Green during the past month.

The President announced that the Junior Volunteer Firemen were sponsoring a dance at the Fire Hall on March 11 with music
