Monday evening there was a foundation in the lot next door to Mrs. H. T, Updike on Piedmont Avenue—Tuesday evening there was a 2-story house.
The story started Monday around dinner when we saw V. R. (Dutch) Updike standing in the middle of the street, “Looking to see if my house is coming down the road yet.” Thinking this reply to our innocent question rather strange, to say the least, we kept our eyes open, and sure enough, around 5 o’clock Monday evening, a van came rolling down the road with a one-story house as passenger. (Had to saw off a limb ’rounding the corner at D. C. Updike’s). Since the ground was wet with the recent rains, no work could be done that evening. Little could have been done anyway what with the spectators climbing on the tongue of the truck to look into the kitchen.
Early Tuesday the second story began to take shape and in the evening the house was hoisted into the air, and as the van moved slowly from under it settled on die foundation. By Wednesday night the green roof was on the new house.
The Updikes plan to -paint the frame house, either pale green or white. They will also add a back porch. According to their, plans they will move into their home before the middle of June.
