CASTLETON

The Castleton Home Demonstration Club was organized Oct. 25, f949. This organizational meeting was a Cheese Making demonstration at the home of Miss Emily Mandell. The officers elected were: President, Mrs. Doris Coughliirj Vice President, Miss Emily MaBdeil; Secretary and Treasurer, Mrs. Clarence Scott. ■ «
Charter members were: Mrs. Alice Dennis, Mrs. Lena Woodward, Mrs. Nena Cannon, Mrs. Bert Scott, Miss Elsie Courtney, Mrs. Mary Wayland, Mrs. Mamie Leake and Miss Ida . Browning. ’
Other members who have served as presidents are: Mrs. John Woodward, Mrs. Trout and Mrs. Ruby Cannon, who now is our president. The first demonstration as a group Was on How to Use the Pressure Cooker for Canning at the home of Mrs. Alice Dennis.
Some of the outstanding topics we have had are: hammered metal trays -and copper bowls, chair, reseating, how to freeze food, electrifying lamps, stenciling of doth,* buffet meals, Christmas gifts, and, many, many more.
A number of the members, have appeared on radio programs. Those taking part were Mrs. Nena Cannon, Mrs. Ruby Cannon, Mrs. Clarence Scott, Mrs. John Woodward, Miss Ida Browning and Miss Elsie Courtney.
Every year the dub has had a community picnic inviting all families and friends. An outstanding picnic was in 1954 when there were over 100 people present. Ahother . community project is sending trays of fruit to the sick and flowers to the bereaved families. •
As a'whole we feel that our community and our families have gained much through our participation in the home demonstration work.
