Health Dep. Explains Polio Vaccination Assistance Act
Under the Poliomyelitis Vaccination Assistance Act of 1955 the State of Virginia will receive $879,884; of this, $111,500 is designated for expenses in connection with distribution and use and $768,384 is available for the purchase of vaccine. Funds paid to the state from its allotment under this appropriation are available for use by the state only through February 14, 1956. On September 14, 1955, the Poliomyelitis Advisory Committee to the State Health Department (which is the Poliomyelitis Committee of the Medical Society of Virginia) met to consider the use, distribution, and administration of vaccine made available to the state under the terms of this Act of Congress. The Committee advised that the State Department of Health be the official agency to administer the Salk Vaccine and further designated the State Health Department as the sole agency for the distribution of the
