the way we stopped in Holland, where many acres of tulips bloom each May, and a festival is held. We saw a man carving out wooden shoes by hand, (only the inside is bored out with a simple angerlike tool and the rest is hand yvork.) Many beautiful deer skiiV jackets and gloves were on display as well as the usual souvenirs.
At the beach in Grand Haven is a large park for picnics and swimming. The beach is white and wide, the water, blue and ice cold. We saw the “ice breaker” ship, the “woodbine” that keeps the channels open for shipping in the winter and keeps the bouys in repair in summer. The sailors jvere painting a large orange bouy that afternoon. After gathering a few rocks for our collection, we were glad to get back to the house because of the cool breeze from the lake.
Joyce, our cousin, had some old pictures of our grandmother and great grandmother Taylor, who came from Scotland about 80 years ago. We all tried to recall the stories we had heard from grandmother of her early days in America and so another afternoon was filed away among our pleasant memories.
