Under the program, the State Health Department will purchase the vaccine as it becomes available and will accumulate the same in the central office. When there is an amount sufficient to warrant distribution, it will be sent to the local health departments on a population basis. It must be gotten into all children in the age group 5-9 years that it is possible to vaccinate. Attention will have to be paid to expiration dates and under no circumstances should vaccine be allowed to go down the' drain because it was not used.
The Director of the Division of Local Health Services will soon call a meeting to discuss fully the program to be followed almost immediately in putting into operation the administration of poliomyelitis vaccine obtained through the allotment to the State of Virginia under the Poliomyelitis Vaccination Assistance Act of 1955.
