VEAL
We’re in the rising price period for veal, and it usually lasts to January and February. So if you have vcalcrs coming along, take^ vour time to get them to the right wright—200to 235 pounds is usually most acceptable weights. Prices in Virginia last week averaged 65c higher at $23.75. a dollar more than last year this time. Choice and primes ran $24 to $26.50; good. $20 to $25.
CATTLE The first three feeder.calf sales of the vear—at Culpeper. Orange and Charlottesville, saw most good, choice and fancy steers selling at $22 to 25.50; mediums, at $20 to $23.
Definite price breaks showed up at the 500 pound" mark, with strongest demand above that. The weight range was 350 to 650.
Heifers sold at $18-$20 for choice and fanes', $17-$l 8.50 for good, and $15 to $17 for mediums. Spread between heifers and steer pries was the same as last year, but the general calf market was around $1.50 higher than last year.
Most calves went to out-of-state buyers.
CORN The trend that last year added 41c to corn prices from harvest to late spring may very well hold good this year too. flood, cheap storage on the farm would be worth the effort. Price last week in Richmond was $1.27; Norfolk. $1.25 to $1.31.
