These tax dollars go into the State s general lund and are Withdrawn according to need to help pay lor various state government programs designed to benefit all ol our people. If used for public education, for example, the $3,107,376.66 is sufficient to provide a full, year of schooling to 16,458 young Virginians attending the public schools.* . In addmon to this state tax, the N&W also pays big tax bills to Virginia cities and counties and to the federal government. Last year's federal income taxes alone amounted to $30’/* million, while all taxes • amounted to about $44,330,000, more than 21* per cent greater than operating revenues. \
The N&W has served Virginia for more than a century, and in Addition to this substantial lax contribution for support of state government, the railroad maintains its own right of way.
