Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Johnson were in Richmond on September 25 to attend the Apple Smorgasbord1956 at the John Marshall Hotel The “Kick-Off” dinner for “Apple Harvest Time in Virginia” was arranged and managed by the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce.

E, M. Jones* President of the Virginia State Horticultural Society was y>astmaster and introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Kenneth Robinson of Winchester, past Robinson spoke of the high quality and good supply of Virginia apples and emphasized the need of promoting them.

Around 200 attended. The menu featured apples from cock- > tails to dessert.

The tables were decorated with 5 lb. bags of apples packed by the Washington Apple Growers Co-op Inc. and donated by Rappahannock apple growers.

Each guest received a bag of apples as a favor. Also given to each guest were a number of apple recipes.
