Washington—Opponents of various expensive proposals for new or expanded Federal activities often caution that their acceptance “would lead to a welfare state”. This has become a pathetic waning. We have had a welfare state for years. The only question remaining is whether or not it is to continue to grow in authority and influence over the daily lives of citizens at the rapid rate of the recent past.
