Health Committee of the Rappahannock Teacher’s Association feels that there is a verv definite need to. a State Dental Clinic in Rappahannock County, as, during the past thirty years, there has seldom been a time when more than one-half of all the pupils in the county have had all necessary dental correctioas. The parents of many of our Rappahannock children are financially unable to pay the prevailing dental rates even if there were enough dentists in surrounding communities to take care of them. Since the average pupil’s yearly dental bill will range from twenty' to fifty ^dollars, it is easily seen why many families can not take care of the entire cost of their needed dental work. In the past three years an interested group of P.T.A.: members has made several efforts to secure a dentist for the county, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

The estimated cost to the county of a State Dental Clinic is $275 a month, payable quarterly. This amount, however, could he more or less depending on the amount of free work i done. Fifty rents is charged for" each correction. The total amount thus collected is subtracted from the c#st of the clinic, and the remaining amount is divided by two; the County’ pays onehalf. Judging by dental clinics in other counties, and allowing 10% for free work, the usual cost to the county is about $.1,300 for 12 months. A private source has agreed to pay one-half of the county’s share <pf the $3,300. That leaves approximately $1,650 to be raised by our P.T.A.’s, civic organizations and civic minded individuals throughout the county. If we want this clinic in operation by the time school opens next fall, we must notify the State Director of Dental Services to this effect by June.
