Strengthened
Chief Forest Werden Raymond M. Johnson of Rappahannock County, announces the strengthening of his fire control organization by the appointments of Mr. Conner Jenkins, Boston, Va. and Mr. George W. Beahm, Washington, Va. as Local Forest Wardens. They will assist in forest fire control activities in the County.
In commenting on the appointment of Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Beahm. Warden Johnson advised that contrary to popular notions, forest wardens are not salaried employees of the State. They are public spirited men who agreed to mobilize local man-power and fight forest fires in their community.
Thev are.paid by the State on an hourly basis only while investigating and suppressing forest fires.
They will be given a commission by Gov. Almond, which will convey the authority to hire forest fire fighters and to help enforce the forest fire laws of the State in accordance with instructions from the State Forester and Chief Forest Warden Johnson.. Forest wardens have the authority to summon able bodied men for forest fire fighting. Any forest fire occurring in this vicinity should be promptly reported to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Jenkins or Mr. Beahm.
