LIBRARY

Continued from page one

landmark be preserved for the community than to make it the permanent repositors for the historical records of the county? Built in 1SS8, it was perfectly suitable architecturally and ideally situated for the purposes. An examination of the building revealed that it was still sound and could be renovated and made to serve the community for many years to come.

This information sent a group of interested people exploring in many directions. How extensive and costly would renovation be? Could money be raised for its purchase and repair? Could volunteers be found to establish and service a library' to qualify for whatever benefits were available from the State? Could enough books and exhibits be found to get it started ? First results were so enthusiastic and heartening that the Rappahannock Library Committee was formed to serve until an official board could be assembled. This Temporary Committee raised sufficient funds to purchase the building on February 19th at a cost of $2,600.

This is only the first step. We have the building and the purpose. The Committee this week starts on the second step: the formation of the official organization and the drive to raise funds for the restoration of the building. Detailed plans will be announced within a few weeks. Your interest and help will be welcomed.
