Lower supplies of pork with high retail prices have helped the demand for chicken meat. .But by May hog production will be on the increase which coupled with heavier bepf supplies could be rought on broiler prices unless production is cut back.
The Virginia broiler prices last week were 17 to 17% with North Carolina at 16 and DelMarVa at 18 to 19. Broilers on Georgia auctions ran 16.8 to 16.9 cents, with buyer* offering 16 cents as a tentative paying price at the farm.
Corn should show its normal' seasonal strength, with room for a 10 cents a bushel increase in the eastern part of the state and five to eight cents in the Valley by May.
January 1 corn stocks were reported seven per cent above last year for a new record, but much of this was held off the market in CCC hands.
Virginia prices appear to be making a normal seasonal advance, and corn futures indicate that the trade expects this situattion to continue.
Number two yellow shelled corn in Richmond last week was quoted at $1.24, with Norfolk $120, the Valley $1.35 to $1.40 and Northern Neck points $1.18 to $1.25.
