ANCIENT CREEK VASE
Clay has been put to an infinity of uses during the long history of mankind. The most noble of these uses was that given this lovely material by the Greek vase makers.
Anyone who has ever worked with clay knows that it is impossible to improve on the shapes developed by these master craftsmen, shapes always so right and so respectful of the nature of clay that it is impossible to imagine anything more suitable or more beautiful.
In addition to this basic rightness of shape, the Greeks also developed an equal nobility of decoration which was always worked out by means of various colored clays. The body of the vase itself was usually allowed to show through into the decoration, giving an added integration to the entire
