A Workable Farm Program
“I nevetr knew a man who was both a good farmer and a good pool player,” an elderly farmer and cattle feeder commented recently.
“Too many men today think they can plant crops in the summer, then sit around all winter without a single head of livestock on the place and spend the profits,” he continued. “No business can operate that way. Still these men think this'should be enough to earn a living, so they look to the government for help. v “On my place we don’t even know who the secretary of agriculture is. We don't want any help from the government, and don’t think very many people really need it,” this rather perceptive gentleman continued.
“A young man can still make a good living on 200 acres or less if he raises all the grain he can, feeds out a carload of cattle a year and has some brood sows and even a few ^ chickens and a garden. Farming always did take time and * a lot of work and it still does. It will be a long time before the eight-hour day coimes to the farm.”
This is one type of farm program more farmers and legislators Should advocate.
