A Look At Fertilizer

Report And Analyses

Bought

By W. H. Lyne

County Agent

According to the Division of Chemistry and Foods of the State Department of Agriculture, Rappahannock farmers purchased 254 tons of mixed fertilizer during the last half of 1961. I doubt the accuracy of this report, and certainly hope it is wrong in so far as fertilizer useage in this county is concerned. For instance Culpeper County is credited with 4676 tons; Madison with 1688 tons and Fauquier 3552 tons.

If the report on these counties is correct, we used only about half ton per farm; Culpeper 5Vi tons per farm; Madison 2*4 tons; and Fauquier a shade over 3 tons per farm.

At the same time there is bound to be a certain amount of truth in any report. Certainly there is no reason for thus Division to intentionally lower Rappahannock’s rate of fertilizer useage.
