Yep, you are right. While br^ging on my farmers, I’m tooting my cwn whistle too, or maybe it’s self defense.
Some folks say a county agent is not doing Extension work when he goes about with a Vet vaccinating calves; that time spent in this manner is not educational. My argument is that it took educational effort to get these people to act and as long as they want to vaccinate their heifers, I will help get the job done by showing the vet where die people live.
Besides getting a vet is frequently a problem and when you do get one he is always in a rush.
Of course when die time comes, when vets are more numerous, have more time, and know where Tom, Dick, and Harry live, then I’ll gladly let Dr. Joe Blow do the job alone.
Certainly the county agent’s only reward in such an effort is the realization of having helped fulfill a need as he winds up the day dirty, tired and sometimes bruised.
If you challenge this statement, all I’ve got to say is that you try it sometimes—27 farms, 150 odd calves, “forty-eleven” gates, 80-90 miles, etc. in 89 hours. So what?
