Bernard Bolen of Luray died Nov. 21, 1961 at his home in the Egypt Bend section. He was 85 years of age and had been in failing health for several years. life was a member of the Luray Church of the Brethren.

He was born in Rappahannock County in 1876 and was a resident here until Shenandoah National Park was established.

In 1908 he was united in marriage with Miss Ruby Bowen who preceded him in death in 1931. To this union were born six children:

Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Kelley, of Culpeper; John William Bolen, Beulah Bolen, Marion F. Bolen, Mrs. Leslie (Mary) Burner, Mrs. Maywood (Nina) Cornwell, all of whom survive, and Annie, deceased.

In 1932 he married for the second time, Miss Ruth Racer, who also preceded him in death in 1948. To this union was born one son, James Bernard, who survives.

Besides his children, he leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchild ran.
