Sows can utilize pastures, in fact research and farmer experience, have proven a considerable amount of their livelihood can come from good ladino clover pastures. We can produce ladino clover pasture more economically on moretarms than we can corn.
Just a few years ago most of our sows were bred to farrow in March and November. This practice frequently glutted the feeder pig market.
With the advent of feeding floors, lagoons, increase in size and year-round grain feeding lots in Virginia and garbage feeding to our north, the demand for feeder pigs has become greater and more uniform throughout the year. .
