Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins announces that 15 persons have been apprehended in Shenandoah National Park by Park Rangers for offenses committed in violation of the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, applicable to National Parks. These 15 persons were tried before U. S. Commissioner Guy O. Farley on Nov. 29, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2, 1961.
Nine persons were charged with hunting, three for possession ofj firearms, two for speeding and one; for reckless driving. Fines for the. offenses ranged from $25 to $100, and in one case a gun and automobile were forfeited to the United States.
The offenders were from Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylval ruia. . .
The posted Park speed limit is 35 mph on the Skyline, and the Park boundary is well marked for all persons to recognize when entering by automobile or on foot. Superintendent Hoskins again reminds all persons that the National Parks are sanctuaries for wildlife of every sort, and the hunting, killing, wounding, frightening, capturing or attempting to kill, wound, frighten, or capture any wild birds or animals at any time is unlawful and punishable by a fine of not more than $500.00 or imprisonment for not exceeding 6 months, or both.
