Interstate 66 will eventually be a 76-mile highway linking Washington and Interstate 81 near Strasburg in Shenandoah County.

Access to the 8.5 mile section will be from US Routes 29-211 at both ends of the project.

A short section of less than onehalf mile on the Beltway between US Route 1 and the new Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge at Alexandria will be opened to traffic with the dedication of the bridge on Dec. 28, the anniversary of Wilson’s birth.

The bridge, one of two Potomac River spans on the Beltway, was a Bureau of Public Roads project and will be maintained by Maryland.

Elsewhere on the Virginia interstate scene there were 90 miles of Interstate 95 in construction between Washington and the North Carolina border; work was in progress on more than 80 miles of Interstate 81 in the west and southwest; another 12 miles was underway on Interstate 66 in northern Virginia and construction was beginning on a section of Interstate 64 in Alleghany County.
