Misuse of electrical equipment is credited—or blamed—with causing 20.4 per cent of all knownorigin fires in the seven-year period ending with 1959, according to the National Board of Fire Underwriters.

The National Fire Protection Association says there were 74,000 electrical fires in 1959, destroying property worth $133,980,000.
