Some drivers end up dead wrong even with the right-of-way, according to accident statistics every year.
Motorists should always play it safe even when they have the green light or otherwise have the rightof-way. Failure to yield the rightof-way continues to be listed among the four most frequent causes of more than 80 per cent of the motor vehicle accidents which result in death or injury.
Violations ^>f "the rules of the road" resulted in death for 38,000 Americans in 1960. Another 3,078,000 were injured, many of them permanently. Nearly 4,000 of these deaths resulted when someone failed to yield the right-of-way. • Injuries resulting from this violation amounted to 585,000 in 1960.
The unfortunate thing about these statistics is that many of the dead and injured had the rightof-way.
