Woman I* Awarded $2,158
Found In Chicken Coop
Finders are keepers in the case of a woman who turned up $2,158 on the floor of a chicken coop in Fairfax County, Circuit Court Judge Albert V. Bryan, Jr., ruled yesterday. He awarded the money to Mrs. Catherine Ballard of Route 5, Vienna, over the objection of the daughter of the former owner of the farm Mrs. Virginia Coulter. The present owner did not make a claim. Mrs. Ballard, whose husband rents the farm, found the money on September 10 while she and her mother were feeding chickens. Mrs. Ballard called police who put the money in a Herndon saving institution pending the court decision. Mrs. Coulter testifiedyesterday that her father, now dead, was in the habit of hiding money and might have hidden the sum found by Mrs. Ballard.
