Jones of Washington, Va., has been selected to replace James M. Settle, Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Clerk of Rappahannock County. Mr. Jones, a prominent farmer and apple grower, has been chosen by Judge of the Circuit Court, R.VT. Snead, upon recommenda- ! tion of the Rappahannock County Bar Association to j fill the unexpired 5-year term of Mr. Settle who re- j tired January I, 1963, because of ill health. Miss Ruth Stevens had been appointed to fill this term but died on December 17, 1962, before taking office. While Mr. Jones is training to take over the duties of the office, Mr. William D. Harris, Deputy Clerk of Fauquier County, and Mrs. ■ Eva Smith, Deputy Clerk of Rappahannock County, will assume the duties of this office. Mrs. Smith will continue as Deputy Clerk after Mr. Jones qualifies. E. M. Jones, born in 1912, son of the late J. Frank Jones and Gates Moffett Jones, has previously been manager of the Rappahannock Fruit Growers Cooperative, Inc. in Sperryville, from which position he is resigning. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County and as a member of the Welfare Board. His appointment as Clerk will create vacancies on these two boards.
Mr. Jones is a Deacon and Treasurer of Washington Baptist Cburch.-He. is see-: retary of Redlviva Company and is a past president of the Virginia Horticultural Society and National Apple Institute. He is presently serving as a member of the Commission of Industry and Agriculture, the Planning Commission and League of Virginia Counties, and is a director of Civil Defense.
