drawers are often double deep and can store blankets or extra bedding. Before you buy Christmas furniture, be sure you have studied your needs, know the size you want, and take .. mentally at least ..your room plans and color-scheme to market with you. If you are buying for a friend, consult her or the surprise may not be really satisfying and useful. If it's for your family, talk it over, plan together, and go shopping together so that such a major purchase will be exactly what everyone concerned wants.

With the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations keeping everyone busy I thought I would devote this section of the column to a good recipe for holiday cooking. Most of them can be prepared ahead and frozen, as can this chocolate fudge recipe.

********** Creamy Fudge 1 l oz. square Unsweetened

chocolate 3 6 oz. package chocolate chips 1/2 lb. butter or margarine

(2 sticks) 4 1/2 c. white sugar 1 large can evaporated milk 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. nuts (if desired)

Into a large bowl put the unsweetened chocolate, the chocolate bits and the butter. In a large heavy saucepan place milk and sugar. Melt over low heat, then bring mixture to a rolling boil. Set timer, and cook for 6 minutes. Stir constantly. Remove from stove and pour slowly over Chocolate and butter in the bowl. Beat slowly with an electric beater until the mixture begins to set. . be sure to beat long enough. Add vanilla and nuts while beating the last minute. Turn out into buttered pan. Chill 2 hours before cutting. Makes about 3 1/2 lbs.
