The loans enable farmers to avoid selling off foundation livestock, machinery, and other capital assets needed to operate their farms. i Emergency loans may be used to pay for feed, seed, fuel, fertilizer and other crop and livestock expenses. To be eligible a farmer must be unable to obtain the credit he needs from other sources. He must also have suitable experience and reasonable prospects for success in the farming operations he plans to carry on with the loan. Farmers who borrow are expected to repay their loans #s soon as possible consistent with their repayment abilities. Loans are secured £y liens on crops financed and on chattel property and by liefis on real estate when necessary for adequate loan security.
