Miss Margaret Ann Compton of Washington, Va., died Sunday, December i5, 1963, in a Front Royal nursing' home. Daughter of the late John Albert Compton and Sarah Frances Brown, his wife, , and a native of Rappahannock County she was 89. ■ sMiss Compton was a retired school teacher. Justice of the Peace, and registrar of vital statistics. She is the last of an old local family which has been prominent in church and civic affairs of the community. She was appointed to the office of Justice of the Peace in 1936 at the death of her father who had served in this copacity. ' • She is survived by twooiece%; .Mrs. Stanley Wade and Mrs. Casper Elliott, both of iPampa, Fla.; three nephews, \|C A. Compton of Pulaski, )!?A. S. Compton of Moylan, PiU, and W. E. Compton of Secane,Pa.; and a sister-in-law,: Mrs. Floyd Comptonof Washington, »“• '-'5 '“JV. A funeral service wa* held Tuesday, December 17, at Washington Baptist Church, the Rev. Arnold Sorrells conducting the last rites. Interment followed in Washington Masonic Cemetery. Miss Compton was a member of Washington Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Society of the church. Pallbearers were W. A. Buntin, Leslie Merrill, Arthur Miller, Richard Menefee, Virgil Updike and Clarence Giles. Here from out of , town for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Compton, Pulaski; Mrs. John Atwood, Luray; Mrs. John Barber, Orange; Mrs. J. F. Moomaw, and Sen. Curry Carter, Staunton; and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wagner, Port Republic.
