Edwin Belt of Washington, V& pled guilty Tuesday to two charges of assault before Judge R. V. Snead in Rappahannock County Circuit Court. The charges were the result of Belt entering the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney George H. Davis, Jr. on September 19, drawing a loaded pistol on Mr. Davis and Mrs. Belt who was consulting with the attorney.
This was the second trial for Belt. He was tried in county court, found guilty and sent I before the grand jury which; indicted him. He was triedi in Circuit Court before Judge Mark Woodward of Luray and found guilty. Sentence was set at 10 months in jail and $100 fine. Belt appealed.
After hearing the case Judge Bryan sentenced Belt to one year in jail on one charge and 60 days in jail on the second charge, sentences to run concurrently. In pronouncing sentence, Judge Bryan said that Belt was fortunate to be charged with a misdermeanor rather that a more serious charge of felony.
