The State Department of Wei fare and Institutions announced this week final plans for the medical assistance for the aged program. Beginning January 1, the program will be available to help cover costs of medical care and treatment of an estimated 80,000eligible Virginians who are 65 years of age or over. The Virginia General Assembly at its 1962 Session enacted legislation to provide medical assistance to low-income persons who generally have sufficient income to meet their needs except for medical care essential to their wellbeing. These persons are not public assistance recipients but are persons who are unable to finance large or unexpected medical expenses. In this program, assistance will be paid on behalf of recipients to suppliers of certain medical care or treatment This assistance will be financed by 65 per cent Federal |2 per cent State, and 13 per £ent local funds.
