ACP Practices Aid Forestry Program

Virginia landowners can get help with two forestry practices through the Agricultural Conservation Program for 1964, says A. B. Lyon, of the forestry and wildlife department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Each county ACP committee authorizes conservation measures beneficial to the overall farm enterprise and to the county. Cost-share rates for each approved practice may be obtained from local ACP office managers. Approved forestry practices include forest establishment and forest improv ement. In the past 10 years, over 9,000 Virginia farmers have taken part in the forest establishment practice. About 1,362 have received help for performing operations under the forest improvement practice. For more information, Lyon suggests farmers contact their local ACP office manager or their county agent.
