Interest arouser of the week. Herbert Barksdale brought in a fungus for identification and control recommendations, Dr. Gruenhagen, Pathologist project leader at Virginia Tech was consulted. The queer looking object Herbert had brought in proved to be a fruiting body of a subterranean fungus (Poria Cocos) which, according to Gruenhagen, “has a certain amount of historical background."
“The common name Tuckahoe is of Algonquin origin. The Indians colleted this fungus and cooked it for food.
