Six Virginia teen-agers lived up to their 4-H Club motto— to make the best better-in winning the 1963 best-in-state placings in their favorite projects.
The young winners are Dwight Peck, 17, of Herndon; Stephen Lohr, 17, of Madisonf Jane Virts, 19, of Hamilton; Georgia Carbaugh, 18, of Stephens City; Karla Myers, 15, of Farmville; and Ellen Insley, 17, of Poquoson.
The six were selected state award winners by the Cooperative Extension Service. Four won expense-paid trips to the National 4-H Club Congress, held annually in Chicago.

Peck’s award and trip was in the dairy program, sponsored nationally by the Oliver Corporation. He started his registered Holstein herd at age six with a heifer. Now he has 28 head valued at nearly $10,000.
