With exams over, students at RCHS have plunged into plans and preparations for the annual Sweetheart Dance coming up this month, on the 14th. Of course a Sweetheart of RCHS will be chosen and her coronation will c 11 max the event. A candidate for sweetheart is chosen from each grade and votes are solicited by and for them, at a penny each. Candidates are: 12th grade, Lillian Reeve; 11th grade, Nancy Jenkins; 10th grade, Brenda Nalls; 9th grade Ann Cannon; and 8th grade, Linda Silvey. -Everyone may vote and all contributions are appreciated. The sweetheart contest and dance is under the SCA. Graduation seems closer all of a sudden. Seniors have selected graduation invitations for this year and after great deliberation, each has decided on the style they prefer for calling cards. Will soon be time to get out the grease paint and test dramatic ability. Senior play books have arrived and been handed out, but parts have not yet been assigned. Mrs. Sally ,Palmer will again direct the production with the assistance of Mrs. Myra Wolf. There are two very happy seniors at the moment. Susan Schaefer has been accepted at Radford College for the 6465 session and Segar Jones has received notification of her acceptance at the College of William and Mary next fall.
Children's Home Society
Seeks Adoptive Parents
Richmond, Jan. 31 - The need for more couples who wish to adopt children was stressed at the annual meeting of the Children's Home Society of Virginia here today.
The Society last year was forced to turn away more than one third of the babies needing homes. Miss Lois Benedict general secretary of the Society reported. Richard H. Catlett of Richmond was elected president of the Society. He succeeds W. A. Roper, of Richmond, who served as president for the past two years. Catlett has been active in the Society's affairs for over ten years and has headed the executive committee since 1961. New members elected to the board of directors were Mrs. Norvell O. Akers, Abingdon; Mrs. Burton P. Short, Jr., Petersburg; Mrs. Nelson T. Overton, Hampton and Evans B. Brasfleld, Mrs. Hunter H. McGuire, Jr., and James E. Covington, Jr., of Richmond. A new member elected to the board of sponsors was Miss Mary M. Wood of Rappahannock County. Miss Benedict reported that the Society during the year placed 148 babies in homes for adoption.
