James Henry Hitt

James Henry Hitt of Slate Mills died Sunday, February 2, 1964 at his residence. Son of the late Thomas Henry Hitt and Nara Belle Yowell, his wife, and a native of Culpeper County, he was 67. He is survived by one brother, Aldridge Y. Hitt of Hyattsville, Md., and two 8 is ter 8, Mrs. Claude Gaines of Slate Mills and Mrs. Glyde E. Hawkins of Arlington. Mrs. Daisy Hitt of Rixeyville is an aunt. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Geest funeral chapel, the Rev. Clem A. Walters conducting the last rites. Interment was made in Novum Baptist Cemetery.Pall bearers were Arthur B. Gaines, Thomas R. Gaines, Eugene Gaines, John Gaines,Thomas M. Hawkins, Glyde E. Hawkins, Jr., Edison L. Hawkins and Robert T. Hitt, all nephews.

Mrs. Maude H. Compton

Mrs. Maude Hume Compton of Culpeper diedMonday.February 3, 1964 in the Virginia Baptist Home where she had resided since 1951. Daughter of the late Noah Franklin Cubbage and Lucy Mildred Wharton, his wife, and a native of Rappahannock County, she was 78. She was twice married. Her first husband was the late George Benjamin Estes and her second husband was the late John Robert Compton. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. W. L. Silvey of Culpeper, and several nieces and nephews. A graves die funeral service will be held Thursday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery. The Rev.John B. Hodge will conduct the last rites. The remains are resting in the Geest chapel.

Mrs. Maggie Bailey

Mrs. Maggie Baley of Amissville died Saturday February 1, 1964 at the home of her son the Rev. George Bailey In Arlington. She was 84 year6 old. A funeral service was held | Wednesday at 12 noon in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Amilisville with Interment in the family cemetery. The Rev. L. D. Ford, pastor of the church, officiated. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Viola Lawson of Washington, D. C., five sons; Edward H. Bailey, Washington, Va., Wilbur Bailey, Washington, D. C., Milton and Robert N. Bailey, both of Charles Town, W. Va., and George L. Bailey of Arlington; and a number of grandchildren.
