Richmond, Va.... Final official tabulation of Virginia's 1963 traffic deaths stands at 989, to mark a 1.5 percent Increase over the 974 experienced in 1962 and the third highest toll in the history of the Commonwealth, C. W. Woodson, Jr., Superintendent of State Police and Chairman of the Governor's Highway Safety Committee, announced today. “This marks the third consecutive increase," he commented, noting that there were 756 deaths in 1960 and 856 in 1961. In Rappahannock County there were 6 traffic fatalities in 1963 as compared to 3 for the previous year, making it rank 87th among the 96 counties. Rappahannock is rated at 13.0 which is based on deaths per 100 million miles traveled* Last year this county ranked 54 with a rate of 6.8.
