Dumps 2.83 In. Rain
April has given us a full share of her typical "showerd so we will most certainly have a blooming May. Tuesday night heavy rains dumped 2.83 inches of water on our coun^, according to 'weather girl' Ruby Jenkins. A report from the highway department discloses washouts around culverts and dtiches in many places and on Route 604 a bad washout in that road which is the Slate Mills section. On Route 522 near Woodville an embankment became so saturated that it slid into the highway blocking one traffic lane. A complete report of storm damage was not available at press time. According to Trooper P.'P. Dicks water covered many of the secondary roads in the county during the storm and travel was difficult and hazard* ous. Mr. Dicks reported one accident in Sperryville during the storm. Washington Fire Company an swered a call to the home of Mrs. L. J. Turner, Washington, where lightning had run in on the electric stove. Consider able smoke damage resulted.

Elect State Delegates
There will be a meeting of Rappahannock Republicans on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Amissvllle Fire Hall. This meeting is principally to elect delegates to the State Convention to be held June 13. At the April 8 meeting couiv ty officers were elected. Mr. Bernard Dahlgren has accepted the Chairmanship. Morgan Johnston will serve as vicechairman and Mrs. R. L. Cheatham continues as SecretaryTreasurer.

second meeting of Washington Junior Firemen was held Thursday, April 23 at the firehall at which time officers of the newly organized group were elected. Holding the post of president is Roger Hawkins with Ronnie Hawkins as Chief. Page Moffett is secretary and Skippy Giles was chosen treasurer. Other present for the meeting were Stewart Palmer, Frankie Huff, Bobby Weakjey, and Douglas Lillard. Gibson Wharton, Chief of Washington Fire Company and Edward Clark were present to aid and Instruct the young men.
