Richmond—A tentative schedule giving Virginia’s pri mary arterial highway develop ment momentum in the next 13 months was announced today by the State Highway Department.
Projects to dual-lane about 175 miles of the newly-designated arterial network are listed for possible contract advertisement through May of 1965. The Department said the sch edule, considered highly tentative, would demand *the max ium effort and closest coopera tion" from all quarters,. Public hearings need to be held on some erf the projects Beyond that, the schedule calls for expediting such vital planning as involves soils and materials investigation, bridges and other structure^ f*eld- in s pect i o ns, right~of way, utility clearances, signing and finally putting the work into the contracting bid stage. The schedule represents an acceleration of work on the projected 1,670-mile system beyond original plans for the first year. It absorbs $14.3 million set aside for the pro gram in the fiscal year beginn ing July 1 anjj which represents more than half of the estimated yield from new motor 1st license revenues approved by the e s time ted yield from the General Assembly. ‘*4 The work in the coming 13 months takes up previous allocations to certain projects
