Benjamin T. Pitts, theater chain head and philanthropist, left an estate valued at $2,125,000, according to his will probated in Fredericksburg Circuit Court. Pitts, former State Senator, died at a Richmond Hospital July 21, following a long illness.
The will, dated August 2, 1957, designated a number of beneficiaries, including the Benjamin T. Pitts Foundation, relatives, employes, two churches, Mary Washington Hospital and the Elks Lodge. and Mrs. Harry Elphinstone of Washington, D. C. gave a birthday dinner last Sunday for the 77th birthday of Mrs. Elphinstone’s father Andrew L. Williams at their home here. Others present were Bob Mattingly of Washington, D. C., Mr. and Mrs. David Williams and sons Donnie and Duane. “Bobb" Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Williams, went to Woodstock hospital Friday and had the cast removed from his leg which was broken in a car accident two months ago.
