Lt. Governor Godwin has held that post since 1962, when he came from the State Senate where he served from 1952 until 1962. Before that he was a member of the House of Dele gates 1948-1952. He served as a member of Commissions on Public Education 1954, 195^ is a past chairman of the Virginia Potomac River Commission, past vice-chairman of the Virginia Commission on Constitutional Government; a former member of the Virginia Advisory Legislative Council, member of the Governor’s Budget Advisory Com mittee. During his tenure in the Senate he was a member of the Senate Committees on Finance; Courts of Justice; Welfare; Counties, Cities, arid Towns; and chairman of the Committee on Fish and Game. Born in Nansemond County November 19, 1914, he was educated in Nansemond County public schools, the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia where he obtained his law degree, and Elon College, N. C. where he was given an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree. He is a practicing attorney, operator of a 500-acre farm, member of the Advisory Board of the Virginia National Bank atSuffolk, and vice president and director of the Bank of Whaleysville. He is active in the Christian Church, civic club and fraternal organization arid many community proj ects; past president Ruritan National; member Board of Trustees of Elon College and Virginia Wesleyan College. He has one daughter, age 11.
