Red Cross Successful In Difficult Tasks
Like the Canadian Mounties, American Red Cross field directors have a habit of finding their man regardless of how hard the job may be. Leslie M. Ray, Murfreesboro, Tenn., one of more than 30 Red Cross field directors on duty in South Viet Nam, is a shining example. He hitchhiked nearly 10,000 miles by military aircraft to locate a soldier whose grandfather was critically ill in a San Diego, Calif, hospital. W hen efforts to reach Pvt. William Kirk by army courier failed, the ARC worker obtained permission to hitchhike to the forward area by cargo plane. After a truck ride and a walk through deep mud, he found his man. Less than 15 'hours from the outset of the search for him, Pvt. Kirk was flying home to the bedside of the man who had reared him like a father.
The Red Cross is always on duty in its humanitarian work. It is there through contributions from those who wish to share. Have you made your contribution during the Fund Drive this month? Please mail your check to the Fauquier Chapter, Warrenton.
