At last, an answer for those scoffers who groan, “Tallyho-hum! Why foxhunt?" On December 4, when Mr. and Mrs. A. Lawton Blankenbaker and Jack Blankenbaker followed the Rappahannock Hunt’s meet at their Haywood farm with a ravishing breakfast, they provided an answer! And an answer which, we are sure, will satisfy even those who say, “Fiddlesticks to 1.) crisp early mornings, 2.) ringing hound music, 3.) zippy gallops, 4.) exciting views of the quarry, all against panaramic scenes of Blue Ridge Country. Hold your hunt caps. Here it is: The list of 18 delicious southern dishes, arrayed on the Blankenbaker buffet which greeted Rappahannock Hunters after a good morning’s chase-Ham, spareribs, sauer kraut, blackeyed peas, lima beans, sweet potatoes, baked beans, rich cheese strata, cole slaw, hot biscuits with homemade butter, herb bread, salsify, baked apples with cinnamon hearts, fruit cake, pound cake, cookies, two kinds of pickles, coffee with whipped farm cream. I’m sure the rewards of foxhunting are manifestly apparent now. Any questions?
