appreciable amount of rain had fallen in several areas of the state. The proclamation temporarily ends the hunting season east of the Blue Ridge, but state law provides for an extension of the season after the woods are reopened for as long as they were closed.

There will be no extension in the migratory fowl season since that is governed by federal statute.

The national parks, George Washington Forest, Shenandoah and Thomas Jefferson, will remain open. These are under federal jurisdiction. Rappahannock County Chief Forest Warden Raymond Johi> son urges that local residents comply with the governor’s proclamation. Mr. Johnson states that the lack of precipitation in this area has made the situation acute and carelessness in mountain coui> try such as this could result in disaster. The water level is at an all-time low.
