Laws Clarified
A printing error in the 1966 67 Summary of Virginia Game Laws has been confusing hunt ers about the closing date for quail season in Amherst, Nel son and Rappahannock Counties, the Game Commission's Information Office reports. The season in these three counties is the same as that scheduled for the rest of eastern Virginia, opening on November 21 with squirrel,
Jhootia* ending January 31 and quail season extending through February 15. The erroneous type included with the small game map legend in the digest indicates that the small game season in these counties would open November 15 and close January 31. In the section regarding legal weapons, Prince Edward County is erroneously listed among those counties where high powered rifles are prohibited for hunting. Although Prince Edward was granted authority to pass such an ordinance by the 1966 General Assembly, the Board of Supervisors decided not to put the regulation into effect this season. The Louisa County Board of Super visors modified their rifle prohibition ordinance this summer to permit the use of large caliber rifles for hunting groundhogs except during the general hunting season.
